Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is for people who are in a relationship, whether heterosexual or LGBT, and feel that something in their connection has changed. There may be a need to improve their communication, explore options for the future, manage a breakup, or simply rediscover the joy they once shared. The couple is not treated as two isolated individuals, but as a system where change in one inevitably affects the other.
Συχνά, η θεραπεία ξεκινά σε ένα σημείο που οι σύντροφοι βιώνουν ένα είδος «τέλους»· μπορεί να αφορά τον έρωτα, την οικειότητα ή κάποιες κοινές συνήθειες που χάθηκαν με τον χρόνο. The systemic approach emphasizes the cyclical nature of relationships: it does not examine individual acts but how they are repeated, fed by each other, and form patterns in communication. The therapist maintains a neutral stance, without taking sides in favor of one or the other, in order to help the couple see things in a new light. The reality of the relationship is understood as something that partners construct together through the stories they tell about themselves and each other; when the stories change, the experience of the relationship changes as well.

Έτσι, η δυσκολία γίνεται αφορμή είτε για την επαναφορά μιας παλιάς ισορροπίας είτε για την οικοδόμηση μιας νέας, πιο αυθεντικής σχέσης.
